Shane Ross and the ‘granny grant’

Sir, – Shane Ross has marked time in office by three noteworthy proposals.

He will solve the Stepaside crime wave by stationing a garda at a desk there to wait for a phone call. He has ensured that future judges are selected by people some of whom are not part of the legal system and so less familiar with candidates. He wants to give my wife and I €1,000 (each?) to supplement the joy of watching our grandchildren grow up.

As the heatwave may continue, would someone buy Mr Ross a sun hat . . . if it’s not too late. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The current debate about the “granny grant” raises important philosophical questions. Should grandparents refuse to babysit their grandchildren? Should couples have children if they have no time to look after them? – Yours, etc,
