Public inconvenience – skirting the issue

Sir, – On a recent trip to Bolivia, we travelled across that country by bus. Some trips took about 20 hours of almost non-stop driving. The advertised toilets on the buses were usually locked or unusable. The driver would stop the bus every few hours and those in need would exit to do what needed to be done. The lovely Bolivian ladies who wore great colourful skirts had the advantage, as they could squat where they stood and had privacy as they performed. The rest of us had to search for a bush or a rock where it was likely we might encounter a snake or reptile. I have a Bolivian skirt now in my possession. While waiting in ladies toilet queues, I think the Bolivians have it right. – Yours, etc,
