Sir, – As an inner-city resident, I am an enthusiastic supporter of pedestrianisation of city centre streets. However it’s impossible to sleep in Dublin city centre homes when pedestrianisation is accompanied by noise late at night due to late outdoor dining with alcohol served. Planning authorities and the Garda Síochána need to ensure that inner-city dwellers can enjoy their homes in the same way as suburbanites do. Remember the hell residents endured near the canals a while back. Let’s not make the same mistake with increased pedestrianisation and freely available alcohol.
We want people to come back to live in the inner cities and not to be deterred, especially families. – Yours, etc,
CATHERINE O’FLYNN,
Dublin 7.
