Metro Link and transport in Dublin

Sir, – The new Metro Link service is facilitating people in areas of south Dublin who are already served by a Luas line. While this system has its problems, the people of Rathfarnham are stuck with a creaking bus service that is leading to congestion and longer journey times.

A Metro Link system that included Rathfarnham would help with the growing population needs. Many people in the community work in the city centre and feel they have been ignored by those planning this project. Ireland 2040 must lead to a Metro for the entirety of Dublin, not just half the county. – Yours, etc,

CIAN BYRNE,

Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.

Sir, – Looking at the map for the new Metro North route, I notice that the line terminates just north of Swords. Malahide and the northern mainline railway lie just over 4km away to the East.

Would it not make sense now, while the project is still in the planning stage, to also connect the Metro North to the Northern mainline railway at or near Malahide, allowing airport travellers from as far north of Dublin as Belfast, allowing them to directly access Dublin Airport without having to go into the already overcrowded city centre?

One of the reasons for the overcrowding and chaos in the city centre is that, at present, essentially all public transport routes in Dublin go into the city centre, forcing people who don’t need to be there to route through the city centre in order to get to the other outer suburb they actually want to get to.

Dublin badly needs a couple of decent orbital public transport routes to route people around the overcrowded city centre. – Yours, etc,
