Fianna Fáil’s role in FG budgets

Sir, – In his letter, Billy Kelleher TD (September 21st) complains about an Irish Times editorial referring to Fianna Fáil only being interested in claiming "ownership of any spending increases, particularly any that apply to pensioners".

He goes on to say that your newspaper was only printing current Government spin in making this “snide remark”.

In the very next paragraph he suggests that the last two budgets were independently assessed as being progressive only because of Fianna Fáil’s involvement in preparing them.

Or to put it another way, Mr Kelleher would like us all to know that it was only thanks to Fianna Fáil that the pensioners got more money. – Yours, etc,
