Bus plan for capital needs a rethink

Sir, – The answer is not just changing the colour and number of the buses and reducing the number of routes, which seems to be what the National Transport Authority is proposing with the Bus Connects plan. The route from Whitehall Road to Rathmines via Terenure and Rathgar is served by the very popular 15A, which will be scrapped and replaced by a service where bus passengers will have to switch between three separate buses in all weathers to complete their journey.

In many ways Dubliners are lucky to live in a historic city of winding and narrow streets but the city is in desperate need of more transport options before it is choked to death by cars.

But why is the priority to pour more billions into upgrading the existing Green Line Luas to a Metro when other parts of the city have no reliable transport services?

Those who live in parts of Dublin, served by Dart, Luas, and Metro services, not to mention bus corridors and protected cycle lanes, are the envy of many of us.

I say to the NTA, please listen to your customers and make the significant investment required for the future transport needs of the city. Yes, that should include a partially underground network into areas not served currently by existing rail services. – Yours, etc,
