Bins no match for motivated workers

Sir, – This morning I watched in amazement as the bin wagon lurched into our little enclave of 19 houses at precisely 9am. It slowed at the first house with the appropriate blue bin and, with the agility of an Olympic athlete, off leaped the lad riding shotgun and, at sprint-pace, he emptied the bin, returned it to the pavement and jumped back on board the still-moving wagon. This was repeated at all houses with bins for emptying. In a little over three minutes, they were gone. All done and dusted.

I was full of admiration for the speed, efficiency and dedication of these heroes. Then I remembered. There was a big match on that night. It wouldn’t have anything to do with that, would it? The post was early too. – Yours, etc,

MARY REGAN,

Greencastle
