Sir, – Thursday, March 20th marks the International Day of Happiness, a reminder – courtesy of the United Nations – that joy is not just a nice extra but a fundamental human goal. Harvard professor Arthur Brooks might add that true happiness isn’t about chasing fleeting pleasures but building a life rich in love, purpose, and, ideally, a decent sense of humour.
In a world with official days for everything from pancakes to pirates, it’s reassuring that happiness gets its turn. Perhaps it’s a cue to swap doom-scrolling for a good cup of tea, a chat with a friend, or simply the quiet relief of an unexpectedly sunny day. – Yours, etc,
ENDA CULLEN,
Armagh.
