Sir, – I disagree with Brendan Murphy’s letter on “calling Putin’s bluff” (September 17th).
Mr Murphy writes: “let’s give Ukraine everything they are asking for”. I’m not sure who he is speaking on behalf of, given Ireland is a neutral, non-Nato country, and is not a military supplier of weapons to Ukraine.
His simplistic schoolyard bully argument ignores the fact that Vladimir Putin has nuclear weapons and is more likely to use them as he loses the war.
With casualties now approaching a million, it is no time for nuclear bluff. It is time to end the war.– Yours, etc,
