Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of Irish have endured over the years the long walk to the circular departure lounge at Terminal 1 in Heathrow for Aer Lingus flights to, and from Ireland.

Most of us have hated every single step. However, the long walk will soon be no more.

From July 9th, Aer Lingus will move into the new, swish Terminal 2 - built at a cost of £2.5 billion and named in honour of one of Ireland's most famous visitors, Queen Elizabeth II.

Designed to last 50 years, the new Terminal 2 will be known as “The Queen’s Terminal”.

By the end of its life, Heathrow Airports Authority expects that one billion passengers will have begun, or ended their journeys there.

So what memories do you have of Terminal 1? Did you hate it?

Was it a place of penance waiting for delayed flights, or the place where new relationships began, or one that evokes treasured memories of rugby at Twickenham, or boozy weekends......
