Irish Rail has said significant disruption to Maynooth line services this Friday evening due to a vehicle hitting and causing damage to a level crossing in Porterstown in Dublin 15 has now abated.
A video tweeted by Irish Rail shows CCTV footage of a black car driving straight through a gate at the level crossing.
Irish Rail had said at around 6pm that delays of up to 50 minutes were expected on Maynooth, Longford, Sligo and M3 Parkway services due to the damage. By 9pm it said trains were now running five to 10 minutes behind schedule and it expected services to be back to normal on Saturday.
