The Late Late Toy Show appeal has raised €5.45 million to date.
The figure does not include Revolut founder Vlad Yatsenko’s donation of €100,000 or any of the “up to €1 million” he has pledged to the appeal after users experienced problems with the company’s banking app on Friday night.
Viewers of the RTÉ programme complained they were unable to donate money via a function set up on Revolut for the event, as the app kept crashing. Other viewers said the problems predated the Late Late Toy Show appeal as the app was struggling with demand as a result of Black Friday.
Mr Yatsenko, a Ukrainian billionaire based in London, tweeted on Saturday morning: “What an incredible support @RevolutApp customers gave to a worthy charity @RTELateLateShow! Granted, there were some challenges at the peek of the live campaign. So, I’ve personally donated €100K, and will also match any further donations this weekend via @RevolutApp up to €1M.”

On Sunday afternoon a spokeswoman for RTÉ said: “We’re currently at €5.45 million. That figure doesn’t include the €100,000 donation [from Mr Yatsenko] or the match figure.” She added: “We won’t have the match figure until [Monday] as the window is open until midnight tonight.”
