The Daily Telegraph's former Asian correspondent won't, surely, be popular in his native Australia following the publication of this study of how evidence was concocted, a trial rigged, a cover up put into place and a Japanese general, Takuma Nishimura, hanged by the Australian army on a remote island in June for a series of second World War "war crimes" in which he played no part whatsoever. True, the Japanese were no angels, but this is shocking stuff.
