Kenny coy about timing of general election announcement

Taoiseach intends to visit President on Wednesday to seek dissolution of current Dáil

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has declined to say at what time he will call the general election on Wednesday.

Mr Kenny is expected to make the announcement in the Dáil.

He has indicated he then intends to visit President Michael D Higgins to seek the dissolution of the 31st Dáil.

The House is scheduled to begin its day's business with questions to Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan at 9.30am.

On Tuesday's Order of Business, Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins asked Mr Kenny how long he intended the Dáil to sit for on Wednesday.

Mr Kenny replied: “The Dáil sits at 9.30 in the morning. Mr Flanagan will be answering questions.’’
