Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher, who suffered a surprise loss at a selection convention for the European elections, has been added to the party ticket.
The party’s national constituencies committee met on Friday and decided to add two candidates in the upcoming European elections.
Mr Kelleher was added to the ticket in Ireland South. He will stand alongside Wexford councillor Malcolm Byrne, who was the unexpected winner of the constituency convention on March 16th, pipping the Cork North Central TD by eight votes.
The second candidate to be added is Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte, who will contest the Midlands-North-West alongside Brendan Smyth, the Cavan-Monaghan TD, who came through the convention on March 15th.
Ms Rabbitte will be the party’s sole female candidate contesting the European Parliament elections.
Fianna Fáil has also announced that it has recruited two sitting councillors in South Dublin to the party.
Cllr Jonathan Graham joined Fianna Fáil on Friday, after resigning from Sinn Féin last year.
Cllr Deirdre O’Donovan, a former independent councillor, became a member of the party a number of weeks ago.
