Dublin elects its 349th Lord Mayor in Cllr Nial Ring

Sinn Féin, Labour and Independent councillors agreed formal pact to rotate the role

Independent councillor Nial Ring has been elected as the new Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Mr Ring was elected as the city’s 349th Lord Mayor by fellow councillors on Monday evening at the annual council meeting.

The Dublin north inner city councillor takes over the role from Sinn Féin councillor Micheál Mac Donncha.

Mr Ring’s was nominated by fellow Independent and inner city councillor Christy Burke arising from a formal pact between Sinn Féin, Labour and an Independent councillors to rotate the role of mayor.

Mr Ring was first elected as a councillor for the Inner City North area in the 2009 local elections and was re-elected in 2014.

Sinn Féin councillor for Ballymun, Cathleen Carney Boud was elected as Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin.
