The Parents for Justice group has expressed concern that the Judgement in the recent Abbeylara case might limit the role of the Oireachtas Committee in conducting further inquiries in the organ retention inquiry.

The Attorney General is currently reviewing the impact of the Abbeylara Judgement where the Supreme Court ruled that the Oireachtas does not have the power to make findings which could damage the reputation of citizens.

Last April the Minister for Health and Children assured the group the matter would be clarified "within weeks" but now two months later nothing has been forthcoming.

"Parents and next-of-kin deserve to know where they stand on this issue" the group’s spokesperson Fionnuala O’Reilly said.

A spokesperson for the Minister said the delay was due to the change in Attorney General following the general election and that it would be resolved soon.

The Parents for Justice group has over 1900 registered members and is a support group for families who discovered their children’s (and adults) organs had been detained without their knowledge by hospitals.
