Landline numbers to change around the country

Landline phone numbers in parts of Cork, Kerry, Longford and Tipperary are set to change, Eircom announced today.

The number change is being introduced by the communications regulator ComReg to ensure that adequate reserves of telephone numbers exist for customers and services.

Eircom said numbers in the 023, 043, 052 and 064 areas will all gain two extra digits.

The old numbers and new numbers will operate in parallel for a period of approximately six months beginning on November 3rd.

Local numbers in the affected areas will have two digits added to the start of the existing five digit number however the area code will not change.

Eircom said that callers dialling the old number after the changeover date will hear a recorded announcement advising them that the number has changed and the new seven digit number will be offered.

No charges will be applied to the calls answered by the recorded announcement.

Customers living in Bandon, Longford, Granard, Clonmel, Cahir, Killenaul, Killarney and Rathmore will all be affected by the changeover in numbers.
