The Irish group representing the victims of clerical sex abuse has said there was no sense of triumphalism at the resignation of Cardinal Law but that it was another indication that the situation "won't go away."
Director of One in Four, Mr Colm O'Gorman, told ireland.comthe resignation was "not something we welcome or don't welcome" and that his group was "not in the business of forgiving or not forgiving" but resignations "don't solve anything".
He called on the Church to acknowledge that they "knowingly" protected clergy who were involved in sexual abuse.
He said the Church had "sadly become irrelevant because of its inability to face-up to its responsibilities" and that he looked forward to "strong proposals from the Department of Justice" on the issue.
