Woman pushing pram killed after 4x4 mounts footpath

A woman in her thirties was killed yesterday after she was struck by a 4x4 vehicle as she walked with her child in a pram.

The incident occurred at 12.30pm at the entrance to an industrial estate on the south side of the Dublin Road into Balbriggan.

A garda spokeswoman said the 31-year-old woman, named locally as Olivia Dunne, was fatally injured when a blue 4x4 mounted the footpath and collided with the woman and pram from behind.

The woman’s three-month-old baby girl, who was in the pram, was injured and taken to Temple Street Hospital. The extent of the child’s injuries could not be ascertained last night.

The driver of the vehicle was removed to Beaumont Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.

The road was closed for a time for the Garda to carry out a forensic collision investigation. Local diversions were put in place but the road was later reopened.

The Garda spokeswoman said the circumstances surrounding yesterday’s incident were currently under investigation.
