A woman has died following a fatal crash off Lower George’s Street in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
It is understood the incident involved a lorry and the woman who was a pedestrian. Another woman who attempted to prevent the incident is understood to be traumatised by the incident.
The driver of the truck is also understood to be suffering from shock.
Gardaí said George’s Street in Dún Laoghaire is closed following the incident which took place at Myrtle Square, close to the town’s Bloomfields shopping centre, and opposite St Michael’s Hospital.

Gardaí have put diversions in place and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
A number of people on the square at the time are being treated for shock. Local councillor Maurice Dockrell, commenting on social media, said: “v sad a lady was just fatally knocked over by a truck, near Bloomfield’s Shopping Centre/ A young lady tried to stop the accident must be v traumatised and the driver”.
In a statement, issued just after lunchtime, gardaí appealed for witnesses to the incident which took place at the junction of George’s Street Lower and Convent Lane, Dún Laoghaire.
“At approximately 10am a female pedestrian was fatally injured following a collision with a truck. The woman (early 70s) has been removed from the scene to St Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown where a postmortem will take place in due course.
“The male driver (late 30s) of the truck and his male passenger (late 30s) were treated at the scene for their injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
“The road is currently closed as the Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting their examination of the scene and local diversions are in place,” they said.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, including any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam).
