A woman (18) has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing harm after a man was discovered with serious injuries in Limerick on Friday evening.

Gardaí sought information from potential witnesses after the man, aged in his 30s, was seen walking along the Ennis Road in the Westfield Park area at around 10pm on Friday, with what appeared to be an injury.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Limerick, according to a Garda spokesman. It is understood the man was discovered with a serious head injury.

The woman was arrested on Saturday and held at Henry Street Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. She remained in custody on Sunday morning.
