Two men killed in separate crashes in Tipperary and Tyrone

Two men were killed in separate crashes on Tuesday, one in Tipperary and the other in Tyrone, gardaí and the Police Service of Northern Ireland have said.

A male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, died in Tipperary after he was struck by a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem examination.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was also taken to hospital in Limerick as a precaution, gardaí said.

The incident happened on the road between Toomevara and Ballinamona Cross at about 10pm on Tuesday, and gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

The road was closed on Wednesday morning for a forensic examination, and investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda station on 067-50450, the Garda confidential line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.

Gardaí are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling on this road at the time with camera footage to make this available to them.

Police in Northern Ireland are investigating the fatal collision in Strabane, Co Tyrone.

The driver of a Volkswagen Transporter van, a man aged in his 20s, died as a result of the collision involving a Scania cement lorry at Victoria Road, Ballymagorry, at about 3.25pm on Tuesday.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment. Victoria Road was closed overnight as enquiries were conducted at the scene, but has since reopened.

Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who was driving in the area on Tuesday afternoon and witnessed the collision or who may have captured dash-cam footage which could assist with their enquiries to contact them at Sprucefield on 101 quoting reference number 1269 07/12/21.
