A man and a woman have been taken in for questioning in Belfast and Co Donegal in connection with the murder last year of 28-year-old Edward Gibson in west Belfast.
Garda detectives arrested a 47-year-old man in Donegal. He is currently being questioned at Ballyshannon Garda station.
Meanwhile, detectives from the PSNI’s serious crime branch arrested a 56-year- old woman in Belfast. She was taken to Musgrave station in Belfast for questioning.
Mr Gibson, a father of one, was shot in the Clonfadden area of west Belfast last October. He was shot in the stomach and thigh and died in hospital the day after the attack. One man is already charged with the murder.
Thirty years ago Mr Gibson's father, Edward Taggart, was shot dead by the Provisional IRA in a so-called punishment attack that apparently went wrong. Mr Taggart's partner was pregnant at the time. She named her son after his father.
The PSNI officer leading the investigation, Det Chief Insp Justyn Galloway said that although one man has been charged with Mr Gibson's murder the investigation was continuing. "Our enquiries have led us to the Republic and we are working closely with colleagues in An Garda Síochána. I would continue to appeal to anyone with information about Mr Gibson's murder to come forward to police," he said.
