Three held over shooting of Jason Doogue in Co Kildare

A man in his 40s, a woman in her 30s and a teenage boy detained after Athy killing

A man in his 40s, a woman in her 30s and a teenage boy remain in custody following the fatal shooting of Jason Doogue (22) in Athy, Co Kildare on Friday.

The man in his 40s was arrested last Friday evening and is being held in Kildare Garda Station. The teenage boy was arrested on Saturday and is being detained in Naas Garda Station. The woman in her 30s was arrested on Monday and is being held at Newbridge Garda Station.

Mr Doogue was shot three times in the chest outside his home in Greenhills at about 5pm.

Mr Doogue was sitting on the wall outside his home chatting with a group of friends when a gunman on a BMX bicycle approached him. The gunman, wearing a balaclava, fired at Mr Doogue.

Mr Doogue fell backwards over the wall and the gunman fired two more shots at him before leaving the scene.

Emergency services were called and Mr Doogue was taken to Naas General Hospital for emergency surgery, but was pronounced dead less than two hours later.

The three people in custody are being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, and can be held for up to seven days without charge.

A younger teenage boy who was also arrested on Saturday was released without charge from Leixlip Garda Station.
