Thousands of homes hit by a Dublin power outage lasting for much of Monday evening, have had their power restored.

A number of areas in north Dublin were hit by a significant power outage, which ESB Networks said affected more than 15,000 homes.

Areas affected included Fairview, Drumcondra, East Wall, and Clontarf, with the power outage occurring shortly after 6pm. The outage was due to a fault, which occurred just after 6pm, an ESB Networks spokesman said.

A spokesman for ESB Networks said several thousand people affected by the outage had power restored by 8pm. All areas had power restored shortly after 10pm, the ESB Networks powerchecker showed.
