A teenager has died after the van in which he was a passenger crashed into a wall in Co Sligo early on Saturday morning.

The incident happened at about 1.45am on the Pier Road in Enniscrone.

The 17-year-old was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary in Sligo.

The 18-year-old male driver of the van was uninjured.

The scene of the crash is currently closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.
