Public transport will remain at 100 per cent capacity, despite the government’s new advice to work from home unless absolutely necessary.

This is good news for co mmuters and shoppers alike, as people start to head into city and town centres to buy Christmas presents.

Ireland’s transport services said they were still planning to increase their late night services in the lead up to the holiday season, but this may change if the government advises differently.

In a statement, the Department of Transport said the number of people using public transport will likely reduce in the coming days as more people work from home.

However, they said public transport services, frequency and capacity will continue as normal.

Irish Rail confirmed that a full service is operating and they don't have any current plans to change their train and DART schedules.

“We will continue with plans to operate late-night DART and Commuter services for the weekends in the run-up to Christmas, but we will keep this under review subject to any further advice from Government,” a spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for Dublin Bus said that a full schedule is currently operating.

“We are planning for Nitelink services prior to Christmas, but will keep this under review based on Government advice,” they said in a statement.

Bus Éireann said it fully complies with government guidance on public health measures, and the current advice is to operate at 100 per cent capacity on a full schedule.

The National Transport Authority said that no additional Bus Éireann and GoAhead services are planned.
