The ESB have restored power to almost 25,000 homes in the south Dublin area this morning after a fire broke out at an ESB sub-station.

The fire at a substation on Brewery Road in Stillorgan switched off two other sub-stations at Mount Merrion and Belfield at around 6am this morning.

Almost 25,000 homes and businesses in Mount Merrion, Blackrock, Belfield, Booterstown and Stillorgan were left without power.

ESB crews worked throughout the morning to restore power, with 7,000 homes in Mount Merrion being the last to be switched back on.
