ESB has restored power to some 26,000 homes and businesses in Dublin following an outage on Friday morning.

ESB Networks said the fault occurred at about 7.20am. Derek Hynes of ESB Networks said the problem affected parts of Palmerstown, Castleknock, Coolmine and Blanchardstown.

Traffic lights were also affected. Mr Hynes apologised for any inconvenience to customers.

There were significant delays to northside Dart trains and northern commuter services as a result of the power outage, Irish Rail said.

The company said shortly before 8am that a signal fault caused by the power cut had resulted in delays, with a “knock-on” effect on southside services.

Services were suspended for a time, but have since resumed on the north side and passengers have been told to expect delays of up to 20 minutes on the Dart and 30 minutes on the Commuter.

As a result of the delays, Dublin Bus is accepting rail tickets on routes to and from Greystones, Irish Rail said.
