The northbound bore of the Dublin Port Tunnel closed temporarily after a large oil tanker broke down in the tunnel on Wednesday afternoon.
Traffic heading across the city by Dublin Port was backed up to Sean Moore Road, near Irishtown stadium.
The entire northbound bore of the tunnel closed due to the breakdown but reopened a short time ago. Traffic remains heavy in the area.
The oil tanker broke down in the Port Tunnel at around 1pm, causing traffic in the tunnel to come to a standstill.
The AA advised motorists to avoid the tunnel and take alternative routes across the city where possible.
Gardaí advised motorists that the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) restrictions on trucks travelling through Dublin city centre were temporarily lifted due to the breakdown.
