More than €1.46 million in Government funding has been given to 11 arts and culture organisations to allow them to upgrade and develop their facilities.

The payments are to be made as part of a new scheme intended, among other things, to prioritise projects that reduce the carbon footprint of arts organisations.

Four organisations, An Grianán Theatre Management Company, the Garter Lane Arts Centre, Galway City Council and Watergate Theatre Company will receive between €180,000 and €290,000.

A further seven, The Alfred Beit Foundation, Axis in Ballymun in Dublin, the Droichead Arts Centre, An Táin Arts Centre, Firkin Crane, the Royal Hibernian Academy and Kilkenny’s Watergate Theatre Company will receive between €70,000 and €88,000.
