The gardaí have released new photographs in a renewed appeal to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 41-year-old Jon Jonsson.

Jon, who is a father of four and taxi driver from Iceland, was last seen in Whitehall on Dublin’s north side at about 11am on Saturday, February 9th, 2019. He is described as being 6 foot tall (1.8m), of medium build, with short brown hair. When last seen he was wearing a black padded jacket.

He had a hotel room key card from the Bonnington Hotel, on the Swords Road, Whitehall, in his possession when he went missing. Gardaí released a photograph of such a card and a new photograph of Jon.

He had come to Ireland with his fiancée the previous day for a poker tournament and short holiday break in Dublin.

He left the hotel on foot on Saturday the 9th and was recorded by a security camera walking on a pavement about 200m away passing the entrance to a nursing home adjacent to the hotel. His passport, suitcase and other clothes were left in his hotel room and his bank accounts have remained untouched since his disappearance.

He had never been to Ireland and has no friends or family here.

Mr Jonsson had never gone missing before and his family were so concerned they travelled to Dublin in February to carry out their own search and make appeals through the media.

Mr Jonsson’s fiancée previously told gardaí they arrived in Dublin the day before he went missing. She went to the hotel bar for a coffee on the following day and when she was at the bar he left the hotel.

His brother, David Karl Vihelm, said the missing man may have had several thousand euro with him when he left the hotel. However, while he may have had that sum with him for the poker tournament, it was not confirmed that he had cash with him when he disappeared.
