A man in his 70s has died after his car was involved in a collision with an articulated lorrry on the N2 between Castleblaney and Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan.
The crash happened shortly before 5pm near McCaughey’s filling station outside Carrickmacross.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, while the lorry driver was taken to hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The road was closed to traffic in both directions and is expected to remain closed overnight. Local diversions are in place.
