Man dies after fire at caravan in Co Kilkenny

Incident, which is not being treated as suspicious, occurred around 1am in Ferrybank

A man has died following a fire at a caravan during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The fire broke out at the caravan on Cloone Road in Ferrybank, Co Kilkenny, at approximately 1am.

Emergency services were notified and fire services as well as an ambulance attended the scene.

The man, who was in his mid-sixties, was declared dead at the scene and his body was removed to Waterford University Hospital for a postmortem.

A file is being prepared for the Coroner’s Court.

It is understood gardaí are not treating the incident as suspicious at this point.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
