A 41-year-old man has been remanded on bail after he was brought before a special court sitting and charged in connection with a €140,000 drugs seizure in north Cork on Friday.

Kieran McCann was one of three people, two men and a woman, arrested by gardaí on Friday evening and questioned about the discovery of seven kg of cannabis herb in a car near Kanturk.

Mr McCann was brought before a special sitting of Mallow District Court on Saturday night and charged with two offences arising from the seizure which followed a Garda investigation with a regional focus.

He was charged with possession and possession for sale or supply of cannabis herb at Dromalour, Kanturk on December 8th contrary to Section 3 and Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.

Det Gda John Sheedy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and said Mr McCann, from Kilbrin Road, Kanturk, made no reply to either charge when they were put to him after caution.

Insp Mick Corbett said gardaí were not objecting to bail once certain bail conditions met including that he sign on three times a week at Kanturk Garda station and abide by a 10pm to 6am curfew.

Mr McCann's solicitor Eddie Burke said the conditions were acceptable to his client and Judge Marian O'Leary remanded Mr McCann on bail to appear again at Mallow District Court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile a man in his 30s and a woman in her 40, arrested by gardaí in the same investigation, were charged at Mallow Garda station and released by gardaí on station bail.

Both the man, who is from the Kanturk area, and the woman, who is from the greater Killarney area, are due to appear at Mallow District Court on Tuesday morning.
