Gardaí had hoped that by releasing CCTV footage of the truck it would lead to the driver either coming forward or being identified.

A post mortem examination was carried out on Friday. A family liaison officer has been appointed.

Speaking at the scene before the arrest on Friday evening, Detective Inspector Michael Mulligan of Ballymun garda station said the incident was under investigation by officers at Santry.

“At this time we are about to release images of the vehicle involved on our social media sight so our appeal would be that the owner of the truck of the driver involved if they would make contact with us please,” he said.

"The vehicle involved was described is a white articulated tractor unit which turned left off the Swords Road onto Collins Avenue and continued on towards Clontarf. Our appeal is for anybody that was in the area that may have dash cam footage if they could contact us."
