An 80-year-old man has been killed in a car crash in Co Kilkenny.

Two cars were involved in a collision on the N77 Kilkenny to Ballyragget Road at Jenkinstown about about 4.30pm on Thursday.

The 80-year-old, who was the sole occupant of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny, where a postmortem will take place.

The driver of the second car, a 59-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Waterford University Hospital where his condition was described as stable.

The road was closed to facilitate Garda forensic collision investigators but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000 or any station.
