Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a crash in which a 47-year-old man died in north Cork last night.

The man was fatally injured when the car he was driving struck a tree and then hit a ditch at Boulard on a back road between Charleville to Dromina shortly before 10pm.

The emergency services were called and paramedics treated the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the car was also injured in the collision which happened near a bad bend in the road about 5km from Charleville but his injuries were not life-threatening.

The dead man is understood to be from the Dromina area but his name is not being released by gardaí until all next-of-kin have been notified.

The road was closed and diversions put in place to allow Garda forensic crash investigator carry out an examination of the scene which began at first light this morning.

Gardaí in Charleville have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the single vehicle collision to contact them at Charleville Garda station on 063-81222.

The death is the second on Cork roads in the space of three days and follows the death of a four-year-old girl on the main Cork-Mallow Road on Saturday afternoon.

Separately, a cyclist died in a collision with an ambulance in Co Fermanagh early this morning.

The man was killed in the incident which took place on the A4 Dublin Road at about 1.15am.

The road is closed to traffic between the Killyhevlin Hotel and Wickham Place and diversions are in place.

The PSNI has appealed to any witnesses to the collision or anyone who was travelling on the road at the time to contact them at Enniskillen PSNI station on on 04 8-45 600 8000.
