A man in his 40s has died after being struck by a car in Co Dublin on Saturday night.

The pedestrian was seriously injured in the incident on the R120 in Newcastle at about 11pm. He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital by ambulance, where he later died. Gardaí said no other injuries were reported.

The R120 (Peamount Road) is closed, with local diversions in place. A technical examination of the scene is being conducted by gardaí.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward, and have asked any road users with camera or dash cam footage make it available to them.
