A 38 year old man in is a serious condition in hospital after being injured in a single vehicle car crash in North Cork in the early hours of the morning.
The Polish national suffered very serious injuries when his car crashed into a concrete gate pier on the main Cork Limerick Road between Ballyhea and Charleville around 3.30am.
Gardai believe the man may have been thrown from the car upon impact and moved back from the vehicle by other motorists after the car ignited in flames.
The man, who is living in Charleville, was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where it’s understood he is in a very serious condition.
Gardai have closed the road and put diversions in place to allow a garda forensic crash investigator examine the scene of the crash.
The man’s car has also been removed from the scene to allow a garda technical examiner carry out a mechanical examination of the vehicle.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or travelled the road around 3.30am is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022-21105.
