A 28-year-old Cork man who was well known in GAA circles has died in Melbourne, Australia after he suffered head injuries following a fall from a height.
Friends of Kristian Crowley from Ballygarvan have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to bring the body home and to pay for medical costs. The page has raised over 32,500 Australian dollars, with a target of 35,000.
Mr Crowley moved to Melbourne in 2012. He was taken to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on July 16th after he fell from a height. He died from his injuries in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Ballygarvan GAA posted a message on Facebook expressing their sadness at the death of a former player.
“Ballygarvan GAA would like to offer our sympathy to the Crowley Family on the sad passing of Kristian in Australia. Kristin was a brilliant under-age play with Ballygarvan and his loss is devastating. To his Mom, Dad, Leon and Karla, we offer our deepest condolences.”
His friend Julie O’Driscoll said that Kristian was “the salt of the earth”.
“As generous as they come, wore his heart on his sleeve and loved life.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family.
