An Irishman who had been in a coma since an accident in Thailand last month has died in Beaumont hospital in Dublin.

Robbie Robinson (32) suffered critical injuries after falling four stories from a building in Bangkok while visiting friends. He was flown back to Ireland last week.

A message posted yesterday on the Robbie Robinson Fund Facebook page said: “It is with a broken heart our dear friend and fighter Robbie passed away today. Robbie put up a magnificent fight but he was needed elsewhere.

“Robbie has gone on to save lives, by donating his organs, so even in his passing he was amazing and touched even more hearts.

“Thank you to everyone for your huge support over the last few weeks. Robbie will truly be missed and we will always love him xxx.”

Mr Robinson’s family were told to expect the worst by doctors in Bangkok but had hoped he might recover if he received treatment at home.

Mr Robinson had stopped in Thailand en route to Christchurch in New Zealand, where he lived, after spending time in Ireland.

He accidentally left his keys in his apartment and lost his footing while attempting to climb up a fire escape to retrieve them.
