A Galway student has drowned while on holiday in Croatia.

Local media reported Eamon Buckley was walking along a harbour in Split on Monday night with friends, including his twin brother, when he slipped and fell into the water.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

The body of Mr Buckley, an NUI student from Moycullen, was recovered from the water at the popular holiday resort yesterday morning.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was providing consular assistance from the Irish Embassy in Zagreb to the man's family.
