Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have begun separate investigations into the death of a toddler in a farm accident in Killeagh in east Cork yesterday afternoon.
The child, named locally as 18-month-old Fionn Cashman, was fatally injured when he was struck by a tractor at Yellowford Farm at Fanisk, near Killeagh, at about 12.30pm.
The boy’s father raised the alarm and the emergency services were called.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.

Gardaí have begun preparing a file on the tragedy for an inquest.
Family and friends were last night comforting the boy’s distraught parents, Conor and Deirdre Cashman.
