A three-year-old girl has died after being struck by a bus in Co Tipperary.

The girl was playing near her home in Carrick-on-Suir on Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by the vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene but the girl was pronounced dead a short time later.

A garda spokesman said the accident happened in the Castle Heights housing estate in the town at about 4pm.

The child’s body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in South Tipperary General Hospital where a postmortem is due to take place.

The driver of the bus, a man, received treatment from emergency services at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, including anyone with dashcam footage. The scene is been examined by forensic crash investigators. Traffic diversions are currently in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or for anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward,” the Garda said.

“They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the housing estate at the time of the collision, to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Clonmel Garda Station on 052 6177640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
