Easter weather: Temperatures to hit 23 degrees over weekend

Warm hazy spring sunshine expected with temperatures remaining pleasant next week

A glorious Easter bank holiday weekend is in store across the country with highs of 23 degrees and warm spells everywhere.

The good weather has already made an appearance across the and indictions suggest that Easter Week will be warmer and drier than normal.

Good Friday and Easter Saturday will see the best of the weather. Temperatures will hit highs of 22 degrees on Friday and 23 degrees on Saturday.

The best temperatures will be experienced in inland areas of the west and midlands. It will be slightly cooler in coastal regions as the seas are still very cold and there will be onshore breezes.

The forecast would suggest that the temperatures will fall back slightly on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, but it will still be pleasant in most places with highs of 20 degrees.

Met Éireann forecaster Harm Luijkx said there should be a "good deal of sunshine and it will be dry" across the weekend.

The only cloud on the horizon, literally and metaphorically, is the possibility of rain in the west and north-west on Easter Monday, but rain is not certain, Mr Luijkx added.

“Rain could come into the west on Monday, but the latest forecast suggests that it won’t,” he said.

“The latest forecast would suggest that temperatures will stay above normal next week and be somewhere in the high teens.”

Good Friday

Dry and calm on Friday with long spells of hazy sunshine. Temperatures will be a little higher again, with afternoon values ranging 16 to 22 degrees Celsius, with best values across the midlands and west.

Easter Saturday

Another mild or warm day depending; mostly dry and calm too with any early mist soon clearing. Long spells of warm hazy spring sunshine across much of Leinster and Munster. Top temperatures of 16 to 22 or 23 degrees Celsius.

Easter Sunday

This will be a dry day generally with spells of hazy sunshine. However, the day-time temperatures profile is likely to slip back, with the possibility of a little rain across parts of the west and northwest. It will be dry and reasonably warm with temperatures of up to 20 degrees in inland areas.

Easter Monday

Easter Monday will be another warm days with highs of 20 degrees. There is an outside risk of heavy rain across the west and southwest in the evening time.

Easter Week

Tuesday to Saturday: The forecast suggests that temperatures will remain above normal for the time of year with bright sunshine in places across the country.

Travel disruptions

Irish Rail has announced engineering works for the weekend on the Dublin to Galway and Westport lines.

There will be bus transfers between Tullamore and Ballinasloe for Galway services and the same between Tullamore and Roscommon for Westport services.

There will also be no Dart services between Howth Junction and Malahide because of track works.

There will be extra DART services though on Sunday for the match between Leinster and Toulouse.
