Dear Aoife, Please read this, because this story is about you . . .

David Anderson (@Dandelion933): “I liked her and I was very, very shy and I regret that now.”

Dear Aoife,

You were in Scotland this week, Aoife, you and three of your pals.

You were in Edinburgh. I don’t know why, but from what I do know, you had a good time. And on Tuesday night, when you and your friends were trying to get back to your hostel, you got a bit lost.

It was about 2.30 in the morning and you were at the mellow end of a good night.

And that's when you met David – David Anderson, a shy 21-year-old first year electrical engineering student at Napier University in Edinburgh.

Aoife: you were lost then and now David says he’s a bit lost without you.

David remembers you having dark blond hair. And you had black dress and black tights. You said you were 19 and you had glasses on. David showed you and the others where your hostel, Caledonian Backpackers, was on Dalry Street.

Aoife, you made a big impression on David.

“She was quite awesome,” David told me of you. “I was too shy to ask her on a date and I knew she was going back (to Ireland) on Wednesday.

“She was funny and intelligent and up for a laugh. She was just amazing and gorgeous and she doesn’t know it.”

And since that Tuesday night/Wednesday morning brief encounter, Aoife, David has been wondering how he can find you, because he wants to see you again and tell you these things himself.

That’s why he turned to Twitter . . . which is where I, and lots of other people, found him trying to find you.

And what if you do contact him?

“I guess I am going to have to apologise,” David has just told me, “because I liked her and I was very, very shy and I regret that now.”

So Aoife, over to you! David’s handle on Twitter is @Dandelion933 or, if you want, you can email me – pmurtagh@irishtimes.com – and I’ll play cupid!

Make someone happy this Christmas, Aoife.
