A further 581 cases of Covid-19 have been reported by the Department of Health on Wednesday evening.

The number of people hospitalised with the disease has increased by six in the last 24 hours to 60, including 17 people in intensive care.

Chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan said the State was “continuing to see an increase in the incidence rate” of Covid-19 and that it was important people did as much a possible to control the spread of the disease as the vaccination programme continues.

“The continuing high levels of adherence to the public health advice, high levels of vaccine uptake and community engagement with testing centres around the country are all reasons to be positive,” he said in a statement.
