Child dies of injuries after incident involving car in Rosehead area at about 9am

A five-year-old boy has died after being knocked off his bicycle in a road incident in north Belfast.

He was taken to a nearby hospital shortly after the incident in the Rosehead area at about 9am this morning but died from his injuries, police said.

PSNI investigators appealed for anybody with information to contact them.

A spokesman said: “Shortly after 9am, it was reported that a car and a bicycle were involved in the incident. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.”

SDLP Stormont Assembly Member Alban Maginness said he was shocked and saddened.

“This is a tragedy that will send shock and hurt throughout the community. I want to offer my sincere sympathy to the family of the young child, who will be going through a harrowing time,” he said.

“I have no doubt that the entire community will rally around them at this extremely difficult time.”
